Visas for Life: The Remarkable Story of Chiune and Yukiko Sugihara

"If you save the life of one person, it is as if you saved the world entire."
-- Jewish Proverb

Thousands of Jews lined up in front of the Japanese Consulate in Kaunas, Lithuania, in 1939 and 1940, hoping to receive transit visas allowing them to escape to the Far East and to America or Palestine.

But on the oceans of the eternal night,
There was Sempo Sugihara's single light,
He gave out visas from morning till late,
To thousands of people who stood at his gate.

--Solly Ganor, friend of Sugihara and Dachau survivor
