Josef Kleinman, from Jerusalem, brought his old uniform to the Wittelsbach Residence in Munich in a small plastic bag. The day was April 30, 1995, the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Dachau concentration camp. Dr. Edmund Striber, prime minister of Bavaria, had invited survivors and guests to a reception in their honor. As a child, Mr. Kleinman had narrowly escaped Dr. Megele's selection process. It was important to Mr. Kleinman to wear his prison uniform in one of Munich's grandest buildings.
